Eighty-three years and 20 million visitors after The Oregon Shakespeare Festival opened, I finally got there. It had been on my bucket list for years. Four plays in three days, a backstage tour, a country inn, great meals, walks around the pretty little town of Ashland, and even huckleberry pie on a side trip to Crater Lake. What could be better? Well, you could be doing all that with two of your favorite people ever. In my case, that meant John Sharum and Sandy Kuhn Sharum. A photo from Ashland is posted below. John and I were friends at Northside Elementary School, and we renewed our friendship and I got to know Sandy many years later when we lived in the San Francisco area. Duane Brown hosted some wonderful evenings with us that often included other AAHS alumni, such as Jamie Harris (Class of '64) and Martha Payne Harris, and George Henry with his wife, Barb, an honorary member of our class for her work on our reunions. Other classmates who came by for dinner or cocktails over a five-year span were Dale Withers Peck, Sharon Ralph Gingras, Dawn Cole Kirk, Robert Berning, Camille Procassini, Patricia Arnold Carney, Mim Streiff Poag, Denny Olmsted, Pierre Pulling, Bill Kirchen, Barry Pearlman, and Vicki Guenther Ferrell with her husband, Blackie. We came to think of those times as the Class of '65 West Coast reunions and still miss them!
