When fate has the worst timing ever

Updated: Jun 1, 2020

For every couple sheltering at home together, here's a story to make you cringe. In early March, John Hanson and his wife, Peggy, were staying in California with plans to return home to Minnesota before the month was out. John, a retired Northwest Airlines pilot with flying in his bones, went ahead on March 16 since he was eager to get in some bi-plane flying in the spring weather. Peggy stayed behind to enjoy a little more time with their daughter’s family. Her ticket home was for March 26. Oh, what a difference a few days can make in these strange times! On March 19, California went into lockdown. A few flights were still going out, but the Los Angeles airport sounded like a veritable petrie dish of potential infection and Peggy stayed put. John in Minneapolis, Peggy in L.A. Six weeks of FaceTiming. And Peggy only came back as early as May 10 because her mother passed away. It will make for great Hanson family lore in the years ahead, but we hope we won’t be hearing this kind of story from anyone else!
