To catch up with Pierre Pulling, try California, India, or France

This news from Pierre Pulling came a lot earlier than this summer but since I didn't include it in the last class email, here it is now. At the time, Pierre was touching base after his 17th visit to India since his first in 1972, a pilgrimage to special spots in rural Maharashtra State, which he calls "the vague equivalent of California". With a local travel partner, he went to "12 sites in 8 days in a rural India where I speak enough pidgin Marathi/Hindi to manage and to enjoy meeting happy and simple people!" One of those special spots was a magnificent Goddess Temple reached by 450 steps, each 8 to 9 inches high. His comment on these, "Mind you: they don't bother with Napa Bldg. Dept. building codes in India!" The reason Pierre would know something about California county building codes is because, as a gifted carpenter, he maintains three properties he owns in northern CA. He's also fixing up four once-decrepit buildings on a one-acre farm in Dordogne, France, and which he says "has owned me for 23 years now…" He told me once that he didn't get to know many classmates at AAHS because he was an introvert, but he now follows the class news with great interest and sends warmest greetings to us all.
