Teacher and coach Chuck Ritter

Updated: Jan 17, 2020

Kay Stipe Huntzicker sent the news that Mr. Ritter died late in the year at the age of 87. An exceptional athlete and also an excellent student – he had the highest GPA on the UM football team for all four years – his career as a coach was pretty amazing, as you’ll see in his obituary.

Part of Bo Schembechler’s coaching staff for six years, he took his expertise and enthusiasm to AAHS/Pioneer, where he coached hundreds of players including the Harbaugh brothers -- and probably some of you? -- over 25 years. In the classroom, he taught math and was later honored as a “fierce advocate for public education”. After retirement, he continued teaching math at Washtenaw Community College and at Maxi Boys Training School. Mr. Ritter was a Wolverine through and through, and the final words of his obituary are “GO BLUE!”
