Sometimes good things take a long time: Nancy McArtor finally gets married

Four weeks to the day before my 72nd birthday, I got married for the first time to Tim Williams of Issaquah, Washington.

It took quite a bit for me to give up my independence—like 50 years (some of you have been married that long!) and a few declined proposals—but it was worth the wait. I made Tim do “the knee thing” when he proposed but all else was less traditional, with wedding photos taken at the Chihuly Glass Museum and Garden in Seattle and a ceremony at a small lodge perched above Snoqualmie Falls in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. I kept my name and will always be a Ms. but it does feel very, very good to have made what once seemed like an unimaginable leap.
