Remembering Julie Burnes Stevens

Updated: Dec 13, 2023

12/1/23. Julie will be recalled especially fondly by those of us who were at Northside School Elementary School with her. Even in sixth grade, she was smart, pretty, funny, and ready for anything. When you were around Julie, you knew you were going to laugh a lot.

She later went to Michigan State where she met the love of her life, Morrie Stevens, on a blind date at an MSU vs. Notre Dame game in October 1966. They were both striking redheads and that has continued into the next two generations of their offspring.

Morrie’s family has owned Stevens Worldwide Van Lines since its founding as Stevens Brothers Cartage Co. in 1905 and Julie played a very active role in the Saginaw community where they lived throughout their marriage and raised their four children. Among the causes she supported with her time and treasure were the Saginaw Children's Zoo, the Saginaw Symphony, Delta College Foundation, Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region, and The Stevens Center for Family Business at Saginaw Valley State University.

On hearing the news about Julie, Pamela Conn Hyde commented, “Julie was a beautiful person inside and out” and those of us who knew her at any stage of her life would say the same.

You can view Julie's obituary here.
