Many class members used the same words in their remembrances of Joan from our school days: "beautiful", "a lovely person" and "a fine friend" . She went on to have a long and accomplished career in the non-profit sector, with her final job as President and CEO of Friends of Youth in Seattle, Washington, where she lived for many years. She and her husband, Tim, were enthusiastic travelers and in 2012 they visited Nancy McArtor in Rome.
