News about Ted Fosdick

12/18/21. There were many warm expressions of remembrance from classmates on hearing the news about Ted, especially through musical connections with him. A talented trumpet player, he was a member of both Varsity Band and Orchestra. Scott Johnson called him “a great horn player and a great friend”. Pamela Conn Hyde remembered when Ted and her husband, our classmate Damon Hyde, played a trumpet duet at Interlochen Music Camp. And he wasn’t above putting on a pair of lederhosen for the senior Talent Show, performing in the Hungry Five German Band that included two other class members, Nick van der Schalie and Steve Crosswait.

Ted had a sardonic sense of humor and John Hanson remembers some entertaining Friday night poker games and pizza at Ted's house with Mike McGuigan, Nick van de Schalie, Doug Coombs and Mike Allen. John also has great memories of a road trip one summer in Ted’s Triumph convertible to a glider school in New York State where they upgraded their Private Pilot licenses (earned when they were in high school) to include a glider rating and then went “soaring amongst the birds in two Schweizer gliders.” They followed that up with a drive through Canada, “with the top down, smoking Cuban cigars and feeling like pretty hot stuff.”

Still playing his trumpet decades after high school, on some evenings at dusk Ted would stand at the edge of a large pond on the family property in Saline to play "Taps" in tribute to his late wife, Cathy. A generous financial supporter of our class reunions, it was nevertheless hard to persuade him to come to one!
