4/7/21. As we get older and our parents pass on, often our siblings are the only ones left who have been with us for our entire lives. They can know and love us in a way no one else can, and losing them is painful in a particularly poignant way. In November, Pat Hoefle reached out to let us know about the passing from multiple myeloma of her sister, Sheryl, and said “She was my best friend and confidante in life.”
One of the qualities that made her a wonderful sister made an impression on her AAHS classmates, too: it felt good to be around her. Dale Withers Peck wrote, “I remember her well as someone who brightened up a room just by entering it.” Duane Brown agreed, “It seems she always had a smile.” And, as one person described her in a remembrance on her obituary, “She was sooooo funny and full of life!”
A resident of Wilmington, North Carolina, for many years, Sheryl had a long career as a talented and inspiring art teacher, cherished and respected by both colleagues and students. One former student said, “She could tap into something artistic in every child.” A teacher said, “She was so creative and loved to teach.”
Sheryl had good memories of being a student, too. Pat told us, “Sheryl loved her high school class and would have enjoyed the upcoming 55th birthday milestone.” We wish she could be there with us next October and she will be missed!
