5/26/2020. You may remember when the Vlisides family owned the Charcoal House restaurant on State Street near Nickels Arcade. Nick, his older brother, Peter, and their younger brother, Bill, all worked there. Dale Withers Peck and Pat Felton used to have lunch at the Charcoal House several times a week when they were freshmen at the UM in 1965-66. Nick went on to a career in food service, including at New Medico (now Eisenhower Place), where he was, as a friend said, “loved by everyone.” He was also owner of Nick’s Place at the Reichert Building at St. Joe’s, where he was known for being exceptionally kind to all the patients he met. Most recently, he was helping a friend at Carlyle Grill in Ann Arbor, where Linda Prieskorn, Maggie House Conger, and Sharon Ralph Gingras often ran into him. Handsome and full of life, Nick made friends wherever he went. He leaves behind his wife and three successful adult children, as well as a large extended and church family. A funeral service was held in Ann Arbor on June 1. It was streamed live on Facebook.
