News about Gerald Ulmer

7/23/24. Gerald was one of those people you just couldn’t not like. As Carol Keeton said, he was “a super nice guy”. Handsome, athletic, outgoing, he was gracious in a way not all boys in high school know how to be.

Jackie Sage called him, “such a kind and gentle person” and he was. “A great guy” is the way Maggie House Conger and Patricia Schneider Mannor described him. And with both their last names starting with “U”, Lynn Umpleby Fuentes said they sat together when they were in the same classes “and I was always glad when I saw him there”.

After serving as a Sky Soldier for the U.S. Army in Vietnam following high school, Gerald moved to Texas to study at Texas Southern University’s School of Business and spent the rest of his life there. He had a career in event planning— a great fit, as his obituary notes, for someone who loved people and travel.
