News about Cathy Miller Traviss

Updated: Jul 18, 2022

7/11/22. Cathy and her husband, Dennis Traviss, settled on the Traviss family farm in Mesick, MI, after their marriage in 1969 and spent 17 years restoring it. She was a social studies teacher and history lover and enjoyed sharing stories of ancestors who had lived on the Traviss farm. She was also proud of her family’s military history, not surprising for someone who was born in Fort Bragg and whose father was a Colonel. Connie Miller Hines, who knew Cathy for 65 years and was an especially close friend told us, “Cathy’s passing (from complications of atherectomy surgery) was not expected and is a huge loss to her family and friends.” High school classmates who knew Cathy have an indelible memory of her smile and, as Bonnie Holzhauer Bean also said, “She had the best laugh!!!” Cathy was part of an annual Platte River high school girlfriends gathering and Connie commented that she was “a trusted, loyal friend to many of us Pioneer gals”. Bonnie added, “She loved to instill kindness, generosity and acceptance into all she met”, a real tribute to the kind of person Cathy was.
