News about Barbara Hill Hardaway

6/4/22. Dale Withers Peck sent the news that her dearest friend had died suddenly on June 4. When that was announced in our class Facebook group, Barb was quickly remembered by classmates for her “kindness and warm, friendly demeanor”, as Martha Gilson Phillips described her. Barb knew something about the importance of kindness and acceptance in her role as assistant pastor at the Smith Chapel AME Church in Inkster, MI. She was ordained later in life and served her church in many capacities, including preaching, bereavement ministry, First Responder chaplainship, Bible study leadership, liturgical dance, and other areas. She will be greatly missed by her church community where she was highly respected and much loved. Barb had an associate degree in Computerized Accounting and finished her professional career working for the University of Michigan before retiring in 2008 to dedicate herself full time to the church. She was married for 52 years and mothered and ministered to many. Barb enjoyed sewing, listening to music, and traveling. She was famous for baking, especially her 7-Up Pound Cake and German Chocolate Cake. Dale can vouch for how delicious those were!
