New honors and some old family history

Some special news came from class member Christine Kyprianides, (whom we knew in school as Chris Kyprie): “I am very pleased to announce that I have been accepted on the Fulbright Specialist roster for the next three years. The program supports visits of American faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants at academic institutions abroad for periods of 2 to 6 weeks.” In November, she visited the Ionian University in Corfu, Greece, the only Greek university offering courses in early music, in which she is a well-known scholar and professional cellist. There she received an honorary doctorate. A highlight was meeting the head of the Pontic community in Corfu. Pontus is the area in Turkey where her father grew up. As Chris said, “Greeks are very proud of their origins!"
