It’s never too late to find a new passion

Six years ago, Kate Brown found an Oxbury Animation Stand on Craigslist and it has expanded her longtime work as a potter to a new career as an animator. The stand is a sophisticated analog device that enables under-the-camera animation. Various versions have been used by George Lucas, Ken Burns, and Walt Disney Studios, among others. An article about Kate and her new undertaking, the Oxberry Project will appear in the January issue of New Mexico Magazine, written by a distinguished writer, Phillip Connors. They became friends after Kate did an animation of the last paragraph of his award-winning book, Fire Season. Kate writes, “It’s quite an honor for me, as this particular compulsion has more than a bit of sheer madness in it. It feels good that it has captured the imagination of a wider public, in New Mexico at least!”
