Gene Tanabe was the first to admit his hair was getting out of control, and that was in April. Stoy Dulgeroff quickly followed up with a picture that made it clear he was having the same problem. Desperation was setting in around the country.
But not everyone was having bad hair days, thanks to helpful husbands. Duane Brown’s did a masterful job of getting his hair back in shape. Colleen McLean Calver's husband neatly trimmed her hair in back because she couldn't see the back of her head to do it herself—but he declined to cut the front. Nancy McArtor’s husband threw caution to the wind and took a whack at hers with a pair of kitchen scissors.
And by early May, as the mercury rose in Arizona, Linda McEndree Jackson said, “I can't stand the heat!” and did the prettiest job ever on her own. That takes talent, one shared by Dale Withers Peck, who cuts her hair herself, pandemic or not, every few months.
