Duane has had a lot of memorable birthdays over the years, but for his 70th he did something completely new: he celebrated in Moscow. He said afterwards, ”I was surprised at how westernized Moscow has become and suddenly there are all of the onion domes and signs in Russian using the Cyrillic alphabet. Fortunately, my Russian teacher at AAHS, Dr. Ambrazevich, taught me that alphabet. Otherwise it was much like any large metropolitan city, including the prices. I suspect my $7 martinis were that reasonable due to the exchange rate which favors the $ these days.” You’ll find a picture of Duane in Red Square just outside the Kremlin.
