Betty Vokovich Hass gets more cooking accolades

Amateur chefs from across the U.S. were selected from a field of more than 200 entrants to compete in the 2016 Great Garlic Cook-off in Gilroy, CA, and our classmate Betty was one of them. It was her first national competition. The eight finalists prepared their original recipes in front of Festival guests and judges. Betty came in fourth with her "Wasabi-Glazed Garlic Stuffed Shrimp with Sweet Garlic Rice Crisps". It was a close contest; a judge told her that it was very hard to pick the winners because the top four finalists were only tenths of a point apart. Her six-year-old grandson, Santino, who loves to cook, was there to cheer her on. Betty plans to enter the cook-off again in 2017.
