Really good cooking and baking are a happy blend of science and art but not everyone can pull that off. Someone who can is class member Betty Vokovich Hass. For the third year in a row, she made the finals of the annual Garlic Festival Cook-Off in Gilroy, CA. Betty has a talent for devising great-tasting dishes with a starring ingredient that's not exactly a shrinking violet – garlic – and designing ingenious presentations for them. This year, her entry was Garlic Shortbread Cookies and a Garlic-Cherry Cocktail, and she made a striking, garlic-shaped stamp out of food-grade silicone to decorate the top of the cookies. Although she didn't win this time, she's already working on an entry idea for next year! You can see photos of Bonnie and her creations for the festival cook-off.
