And sometimes, classmates just find each other

When Monique Scanio Doherty made plans for a cousin’s surprise 80th birthday party in the San Francisco Bay Area that took place over Memorial Day weekend, she contacted a couple of other classmates to meet over a nice dinner.

Dale Withers Peck and Betty Vokovich Hass, both longtime northern California residents, were delighted to see her. This wasn't a case of the three being close friends during high school but a nice legacy of AAHS, in that we "know" people from Ann Arbor who now live all over the country. That often means there is an instant sense of camaraderie and shared context, even if we have not spent much time with them before, as was true for these three. Dale said, "We really liked each other, and enjoyed spending time together.” She added, "Monique is very funny, and her smile lights up a room!” Check out the picture of them and you’ll agree. Monique started out her California visit by horseback riding with friends in Ontario further south, and wrapped up her visit with her cousin's surprise party, which she managed not to give away, despite the temptation to drive by the honoree's house ahead of time, before her dinner with Betty and Dale.
