Alumni Update: Ellen Strand

After a rocky start at the U of M, I joined the Navy, became an air controller, got married, had two sons, got divorced, and along the way moved twelve times taking classes at several colleges that happened to be where I was living at the time.  I came back to Ann Arbor after my divorce and bought a house in Ypsilanti where I raised my boys, got married again, and got my BBA with a major in accounting.  I went to work for one of the big 8 accounting firms, got my CPA and have basically been working in accounting or tax positions ever since.

I am semi-retired.  I have a small tax and accounting business but decided last year to get out of the accounting side altogether and just do taxes from January-April 15.  My husband of 36 years is also semi-retired but he works full time during tax season also.  This allows us to travel quite a bit and we've been to some great places in the last ten years.

My two sons are both in the Ann Arbor area and with my youngest son's marriage last year our family seems complete for the moment. We all gathered at my house for my granddaughter's 15th birthday in January.

We live in Dexter and have a cottage on Mullett Lake where we spend many weeks during the summer.
