After John Sharum retired from a long business career, he turned his time and attention to an artistic talent evident from his earliest years. Mim Streiff Poag, Diane Ellis Racano, and others of us in his Northside Elementary School class could already tell in kindergarten that John was going to be a terrific artist – his pictures were the ones the teacher always put up! John said he began pursuing art in earnest in 2002. His passion is printmaking but he has studied and shown works in acrylic, watercolor, pastels, and ceramics. Working in his California home studio, he describes his art as “exploring images of nature, cities and people that move me. I strive to resonate with the viewer, to bring understanding, amusement and another view of life.” Here's a photo of John in a calm moment before giving a demonstration of carving and printing woodblocks at Aloft Gallery in Sonora, CA.
