A different kind of family milestone – actually, two

The college graduations and weddings of one’s children are always memorable family milestones, but they don’t always come just two months apart. Rob Dakin got to be the proud father twice in quick succession this year. In December, his younger daughter, Laura, graduated from Ohio University with a major in Psychology, and his first daughter, Alana, was married in October. Laura lives in New York, as does Alana, whose story is a somewhat unusual one: she met her husband, Jonathan, after having converted to Judaism and earning a Master’s Degree at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The wedding took place in Brooklyn, NY, and Rob says, “I made quite a spectacle of myself, dancing with the groom -– yes, the groom – within a clapping, foot-stomping circle of Conservative Jews at the reception following the wedding ceremony. I haven’t had so much fun in decades.”
